The Abraham Perry Halvorson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Halvorsons have established the Abraham Perry Halvorson Memorial Endowed Scholarship at California Baptist University in memory of their youngest son, Abraham, who was tragically killed as passenger in a car accident on October 6, 2023, while a student at CBU.  Preference for the scholarship will be given to students studying in the Engineering Department whose parents are either missionaries or pastors serving abroad with their ministry.

Abraham was a very thankful young man, who told his parents during his first year at CBU that daily he said out loud how thankful he was to be attending CBU. Attending CBU was a stretch for him financially as the tuition is high. He worked hard at his jobs and received multiple scholarships to help pay for his schooling. On the afternoon of his departure to Heaven, Abraham was writing thank you notes for those scholarships at an event sponsored by the university. Found on the notes page of his phone after the accident was a template he used as he wrote those thank you cards stating, “…Last year I was not only pushed academically, but I was also given the very unique opportunity to grow in my faith alongside likeminded individuals who pushed me spiritually. As I start my second year at CBU, I am incredibly grateful that the Lord has provided financially through individuals such as yourselves…” (Abraham Halvorson, 2023)

Abraham was fully aware of the great blessing it was to study at CBU and would not want financial barriers to prevent future students from getting this same opportunity. The Halvorsons are creating this academic scholarship so that students like Abraham, who love Jesus and want to grow in their faith in Christ, can study at this great university.

You can make checks payable to California Baptist University, and then mail them to California Baptist University, Attn. Kim Cunningham, 8432 Magnolia Ave, Riverside. CA 92504.  Please put “Abraham Perry Halvorson Endowed Scholarship” on the memo line.

You can go to  https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/gT0dsQ?vid=18kvdt.  This is the official California Baptist University page for Online Giving.  Choose the “Other” option under the tab called “University Initiatives”, and then type in “Abraham Perry Halvorson Endowed Scholarship” in the box labeled “Other Designation”.
